Open Google Drive and find the site you wish to transfer ownership of (either navigate or search for type:site)
Select the site you wish to transfer and open the Sharing permissions and add the user you want to transfer the site to
In the sharing permissions change the newly added user from an editor to Is the owner and then Save changes
Confirm you wish to transfer ownership with the Yes button
The site will remain in its location and the owner can move it to My Drive or a Team Drive and find it in search.
Google Workspace does not allow to choose an owner to someone outside of your Google Workspace domain. You can use Shared Drives to do this instead.
Open Google Drive and find the site you wish to transfer ownership of (either navigate or search for type:site)
Select the site you wish to transfer and Move to a Shared Drive that's been shared with you by a Google Workspace user
Confirm you wish to move to the Shared Drive and transfer ownership to the Google Workspace domain with the OK button
The user moving the site out of the Shared Drive needs Manager membership
Only Google Workspace Business or Enterprise offers Shared Drives
Published sites need republished and the published URL will change to incorporate the new Google Workspace domain.
If you cannot make a Shared Drive and need to transfer the site copy the site instead:
Add the user you want to be owner as an Editor to the site - see: Sharing and Publishing.
The user can then sign in and copy the site - see: Copy Site.
The user will be the owner of the copy of the site (note: the original site still exists and is not connected to the new copy).
